Free Market Radicals

About

This project will focus on towns and rural areas in Essex, and will explore narratives around the concept of the market, both in the modern economic sense and in the traditional sense.

In particular how the concept borrows from the original meaning - a traditional space of social/cultural exchange, trade, craft and local distinctiveness which provides the origins of many ‘market towns.’ Communities will be encouraged to identify practical steps towards a way past standard economic models that value the consumer, through arts, culture, heritage and non-profit initiatives. This will inform a report and toolkit for each community involved, outlining the future vision and agreed steps by which to reach it.
